Nigeria Governor’s forum
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) is a coalition od the elected Governors of the country’s 36 States. It was established in 1999 with the mission to provide a platform for collaboration among all the governors, irrespective of party affiliations. The main objective of the NGF is to bring the Governors together to share experiences; promote cooperation among the States; and serve as a mechanism for conflict resolution between States, and between States and the Federal Government.

The NGF Secretariat which is the policy hub is recruiting an experienced and versatile Economist for an initial 12 month period. The contract which is renewable will be funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). The scope of work will include but is not limited to providing the NGF with analytical work on States in Nigeria produced from diverse methods and procedures using various econometric and sampling techniques under the guidance of the Director-General.
The consultant will also be expected to compile data in NGF priority areas, such as policy implementation and its effects on states, employment, productivity and wages, poverty and inequality, Internal Generated Revenue, Millennium Development Goals etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Masters degree in Economics (PhD is an added advantage)
2. Minimum of five (5) years post qualification experience in a related organization
3. Demonstrated experience in economic modeling, poverty tracking, statistics, research and development planning will be an advantage

REQUIRED SKILL SET
1. Knowledge of various dimensions of Economics i.e  macro, micro, labour, demographic, financial, industrial, econometric including public financial management, legal and regulatory framework, planning and budget preparation, budget execution, accounting and financial reporting, internal and external audit, inter-governmental relationship (especially with LGAs), independent external oversight (public accounts committee) and donor relationship and the reform challenges therein;
2. Proven ability to collect, analyze and report economic and statistical data in user-friendly language, conceptualize, design and implement financial management capacity building initiatives
3. A clearly identified capability, supported by previous client references, to coach and mentor staff.
4. Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team
5. Ability to work independently and as a team member in a diversified environment
6. Solid cross cultural and interpersonal skills
7. Diplomacy, team building and networking skills
8. Excellent analytical, research and report writing skills
9. Ability to communicate effectively with senior government officials, politicians, users, and donors
10. Ability to work well under pressure
11. Ability to compress complex data and analysis into briefs and presentations for decision makers
12. Proficiency in use of standard computer software (word-processing, excel, databases, power point and Internet)
